Our application to get the distinctive BeerHeadZ logo registered as a trade marked has been successful and now it is protected by law. This will help us develop the BeerHeadZ brand as we open more outlets, starting with BeerHeadZ Grantham early 2016.
The application was submitted in August. After submission you get feedback on your application (an ‘examination report’) within twenty days and you then have two months to resolve any problems – In our case there weren’t any. If the examiner has no objections the application will be published in the trade marks journal for two months, during which time anyone can oppose it – No-one did! Finally, the trade mark will be registered once any objections are resolved and you get a nice official certificate from the Intellectual Property Office to confirm this.
As over half of initial trade mark applications fail, we’re happy we got it right first time!
