We have applied this week for a premises license for our first city venue, which will be in Nottingham. If all the permissions are approved, we hope to be trading by late June/early July. Stay posted for more details as we have them. Meanwhile… Can you guess where it is yet?
BeerHeadZ Grantham wins Town Pub of the Year
BeerHeadZ Grantham collected its first award last night when it was awarded the accolade of Grantham CAMRA’s Town Pub of the Year. It joins BeerHeadZ Retford in being recognised as a leading venue for quality and exciting beers. The certificate was handed over by branch chairman Nev Lomas and there to receive the award were team members Simon, Mark and Neal. Ex-manager Andrew was also there to join in the celebrations. Sadly Briony and Sam were absent but their contributions to BeerHeadZ’ success was not forgotten. Of course, without the customers none of this would have been possible, so we thank you for your support and salute you all! Cheers!
BeerHeadZ meets Brewtopia.
At this week’s BeerHeadZ research (yes, honest!) trip to the excellently organised Leicester CAMRA beer festival, BeerHead Phil ran into old acquaintance Owen Ogletree, renowned American beer blogger, BJCP beer judge and founder of both the Brewtopia website and Classic City Brew Fest which is held in Athens, Georgia, USA. When he’s not drinking, judging or writing about beer, Owen still finds time to organise beer tours around Europe for like-minded folk, taking in some of the best beer destinations in the world. It was on his latest organised jaunt to the UK that I bumped into him again with three of his colleagues – Mark Hall, Ian Meents and Daniel Pittard. These guys are serious drinking machines! It was their second visit to the festival in as many days and they were sharing and ticking off beers from the …
Like to join the Retford team?
Team BeerHeadZ are looking for a reliable, honest person to join our cheery crew at Retford. Work will include some evenings and weekends, but flexibility between team members is key. We value enthusiasm more than experience, but ideally you should be knowledgeable or at least enthusiastic about beer and cider, enjoy meeting people and have an outgoing personality. Immediate start available for the right candidate. Apply by email to BeerHeadZ Retford or in person at the pub.
Bring your own!
Although BeerHeadZ offer a good range of quality snacks, such as Biltong and Hot-Headz crisps and nuts, we do lack hot food due to absence of kitchen area. For those of you preferring hot food such as pizza, curry or good-old fish ‘n’ chips, BeerHeadZ has no problem with you ordering food in to eat. We will provide you with cutlery and plates AND even do the washing up for you! Just order, pay on delivery and we’ll do the rest. Indeed, why pay restaurant prices for a bottle of crappy commercial lager when you can enjoy your meal with a quality pint of BeerHeadZ beer? Just ask at the bar for menus. How much would you pay to keep cask alive?
There has been much comment on the recent announcement by Cloudwater that they are discontinuing cask beer, due to economics of the business and the fact that cask just isn’t kept well in general. A couple of days after Cloudwater’s post, Beer Nouveau gave a very honest response on their blog about the relative costs of producing cask, KeyKeg and bottled beers. It all makes grim reading if you’re a cask beer fan. Whilst I don’t agree with everything in either post, I don’t feel qualified enough to argue against individual points. It is quite evident though, that cask beer has been far too cheap for far too long and if you, the consumer don’t accept higher prices for it, cask may all but disappear over the next few years. It’s a difficult situation for pubs too. If we pass …
